Pyjamas or Nightgowns: Which Sleepwear Is Right for You?
By Heaven Sent Pretty · 30 March 2026 · 5 min read
Both are correct. But how you sleep, who else is in the house, and what your bedroom does at four in the morning should decide it.
Choose a nightgown if
- You sleep warm, or Australian summer defeats you
- You dislike anything at the waist
- You move a great deal in your sleep
- You like getting dressed in one motion
Choose pyjamas if
- You share a house and wander to the kitchen at night
- You feel the cold, particularly through winter
- You like the gathered, put-together feeling of a set
- You want pieces you can mix — a top with soft trousers, a bottom with a tee
The right sleepwear is the piece you forget you are wearing.
The honest answer
Most women end up with both: nightdresses from November to March, pyjamas through the cooler half of the year, and a robe that carries them across both.
